KESHA returns to her country and rock roots with a headlining performance at the annual Bluesfest in Byron Bay next Easter.

The singer and songwriter made an emotional comeback to the charts in August with her third album Rainbow which charted her struggles with an eating disorder and attempts to emancipate herself from former record boss and producer Dr Luke.

As well as her longtime friends Eagles Of Death Metal, she also teamed with country queen Dolly Parton on the record to reinvent Old Flames (Can’t Hold a Candle to You), which was written by Kesha’s mother Pebe Sebert in the 1970s.

Propelled by the raw piano ballad Praying and opening with the bare acoustic song Bastards, the album reached the top of the charts in America and peaked at No. 3 in Australia.

She returned to the top 10 of the singles charts when she joined forces with Same Love rap star Macklemore on their platinum seller Good Old Days.

Her musical triumph after setbacks in her ongoing legal battle against Dr Luke, who has denied her allegations of sexual, emotional and physical abuse, was further recognised with her first-ever Grammy nominations.

Rainbow is up for Best Pop Vocal Album and Praying secured a nomination for Best Pop Vocal Performance.

The third Bluesfest line-up announcement features two other strong female artists, Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge, who played the long-running event last year.

Other artists to join the 2018 bill include South American superstars Juanes and Seu Jorge, who has become much loved for his acoustic renderings of David Bowie songs in Portuguese.

English singer songwriter Newton Faulkner, Icelandic favourite Asgeir and local artists Holy Holy, William Crighton, Harts and Ziggy Alberts also join the 2018 crew headlined by Robert Plant, Lionel Richie, John Butler and Tash Sultana.

Tickets now available for Bluesfest which runs from March 29 to April 2.
